From Risk to Resilience: Strengthening Wildfire Resilience in Europe

Dr. Saiyed along with colleagues from the World Bank and other resilience institutions globally supported the development of a new series of reports, funded by the European Union, under the Technical Assistance Financing Facility for Disaster Prevention and Preparedness. These reports set out practical measures to strengthen Europe’s preparedness for wildfires and earthquakes. Drawing on case studies from Croatia, Cyprus, and Romania, the findings offer insights for governments worldwide on how to allocate resources more effectively and build disaster resilience in the decades ahead. A Global Assessment of Building Codes

Dr. Zahraa Saiyed supported the development of a GFDRR Publication on findings from assessments of building codes in 22 selected countries, focusing on three priority areas: structural safety and resilience, green buildings, and universal accessibility. It offers practical insights and recommendations to guide countries in future code enhancements, strengthening implementation capacity, and improving compliance mechanisms.
